Privacy statement
This statement explains what personal information Cash4Cars collects, why we collect it, who we share it with, and how you can see or correct it. It applies to this website and to selling your car to us. Last updated 20 October 2026.
Who we are
Cash4Cars is an Auckland car-buying service at 575 Great South Road, Penrose, Auckland 1061, and part of the GVI group. When this statement says "we" or "us", it means Cash4Cars. We handle your personal information in line with the Privacy Act 2020.
What we collect
We only ask for what we need to price and buy your car. Depending on how you contact us, that can include:
- Contact details: your name, mobile number, email address and suburb.
- Details about your car: the number plate, make, model, year, kilometres, condition, service history, accident history, and the photos or files you upload.
- Finance details: whether there is money owing, your lender's name and, when you sell, your loan account number.
- Business details: for fleet enquiries, your company name, work email and phone, and any vehicle lists you send.
- Sale details: when you sell to us, photo ID for each registered owner, your bank account details for payment, and the sale and change of ownership records.
- Your preferences: how and when you would like us to contact you, and how you would like to hand over the car.
You don't have to give us this information, but without it we may not be able to make you an offer or complete the sale.
How we use it
- To look up your car, prepare an offer, and send it to you by text, call or email.
- To arrange collection or an appraisal at our yard.
- To confirm who owns the car, settle any finance and pay you.
- To complete the change of ownership and keep the records we are required to keep.
- To answer your questions and follow up the offer you asked for.
We won't add you to a marketing list or send you promotions unless you ask us to, and we don't sell your personal information.
Who we share it with
Your information stays within the GVI group, the group of businesses Cash4Cars belongs to. Staff across the group may use it to deal with your car and your enquiry. We don't sell it or pass it to other businesses for their own use.
Outside the group, we only share what is needed to complete your sale or what the law requires:
- Your lender, to get a settlement figure and pay out any finance owing.
- Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency, to record the change of ownership.
- Anyone the law requires, such as the Police or Inland Revenue when they are legally entitled to it.
We also use service providers to run this website and our business, such as our website and forms host, described below. They hold information on our behalf and can't use it for anything else.
Where your information is stored
This website is hosted by Netlify, and the forms on it are processed and stored by Netlify Forms. Netlify is based in the United States, so what you send through the website is stored overseas. We rely on Netlify to protect it with safeguards comparable to those in New Zealand's Privacy Act. Information from your sale is also kept in our own business systems.
The website loads its fonts from Google Fonts, which means your browser connects to Google's servers and shares your IP address with Google when a page loads. We don't use advertising or analytics cookies on this website at present. If that changes, we'll update this statement first.
If you start an offer and don't finish it, your progress is saved in your own browser on that device so you can come back to it. It isn't sent to us until you submit the form, and you can clear it by clearing your browser data for this site.
How long we keep it
If you get an offer but don't sell, we keep your details only as long as we need them to follow up that offer, and then delete them. If you sell your car to us, we keep the sale records for as long as the law requires, including tax and accounting records.
Keeping it safe
We take reasonable steps to protect your information from loss, misuse and unauthorised access. Only staff who need your information to deal with your car can see it. If a privacy breach is likely to cause you serious harm, we will tell you and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner as the law requires.
Seeing or correcting your information
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it if it's wrong. Email our privacy officer at info@gvi.kiwi, call us on 0800 227 449, or write to us at 575 Great South Road, Penrose, Auckland 1061. We will reply within 20 working days.
If you're not happy with how we've handled your information, please talk to us first. You can also complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.

We may update this statement from time to time. The latest version will always be on this page, with the date it was last updated at the top.
