What affects the price of a used Tesla or EV?
- Battery health. On an EV, how much range the battery still delivers matters as much as the odometer. We look at the range the car shows at a known charge level, alongside its age and kilometres.
- Model and variant. Standard Range, Long Range and Performance versions are priced differently, as are rear-wheel-drive and dual-motor cars.
- Year and equipment. Later cars can have updated interiors, a heat pump and newer driver-assistance hardware, and buyers pay for those.
- Condition. We look closely at wheels and tyres, the glass roof, paint, and the main screen.
- What comes with it. Both key cards, the mobile charging cable if you have one, and any service records.
Road user charges on EVs and plug-ins
Since 1 April 2024, electric cars and plug-in hybrids in New Zealand pay road user charges (RUC), the same way diesel vehicles do. We check the RUC licence and odometer when we price your car, and we'll tell you up front if the licence needs topping up before the sale, so there are no surprises on the day.
Getting your Tesla ready to sell
- Take photos of all four sides, the interior, and the main screen showing the odometer and the range at a known charge level.
- Find both key cards and the mobile connector cable if you have them.
- If there's finance owing, have your lender's name and loan number handy. We pay it out on the day. See selling a car with finance owing.
- On the day, remove the car from your Tesla account and app, and do a factory reset from the car's settings. That clears your driver profile, saved places and paired phones. We'll walk you through it.
Hybrids and plug-in hybrids
We also buy hybrids and plug-ins from Toyota, Lexus, Mitsubishi and other makers, from a Toyota Aqua or Prius to a RAV4 hybrid, Lexus RX450h or Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. We price these on service history and condition, like any quality car.

Do you buy Teslas with finance owing?
